The following document descibes how to replace the automatic transmission gear shift knob for VE Series I and Series II models.
This includes how to correctly remove the knob trim pieces, as well as remove the knob and stalk assembly from the gear lever.
The automatic gear knob removal should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.
To remove the automatic transmission shift knob, you will need to remove the transmission shift button from the knob assembly.
To do this, carefully insert a small flat bladed screwdriver between the knob button, and the top of the shift knob.
Next, gently pry the knob button outwards to disengage the knob button from the knob assembly, as shown in the following images.
Next, remove the shift button to expose the phillips head screw used to hold the shift knob backing in place.
Using a flat headed screwdriver, remove the exposed phillips head screw, and remove the shift knob rubber / leather backing.
Next, locate the circlip located towards the bottom of the knob, which is used to hold the silver trim, and the knob assembly in place.
With the circlip removed, pull the plastic silver assembly from the shift knob.
Finally, the shift knob can now be easily pulled from the gear shift lever assembly, by gently pulling the knob outwards, off the gear shift lever assembly.
The resulting automatic gear shift knob parts can now be re-assembled and stored or cleaned for later use.
