I actually learnt about it better by going through the examples and excel sheets that were put up as they are all relevant to understanding the protocol, the various modes and how to implement it all.

Havent found the doco, but this gives a brief overview

*Edit, ah wait, maybe thats the doco I was looking through the other day? Hmm I dunno anymore haha. Looks like the only alternative is to pay the $66 for the file from ihs unless its recovered.

I wouldnt think thats a problem, but Id suggest running it through an online converter to strip any security from it ;)

Think of it as a place that business keep all the technical documents which are available to anyone.. at the right price.
Youll find all technical docos at: http://global.ihs.com/

Theres documents in there that cost hundreds if not thousands of bucks.

advancedservers: What are you actually trying to do? What GMLAN platform are you working on? If you are trying to disable the VIM on a S1 HU then you have a long road ahead to do it over OBDII. Here is the steps:

-Use a cable to access the GMLAN SWCAN network
-Gain security access to the HU (you need to work out the algorithm first as there is 65535 possible permutations PER HU)
-Create a custom SPS file that will edit the internal EEPROM bytes you want to change (the type of SPS file and the HU's actual ability to accept it are not documented)
-Write software to upload the new SPS file to the correct internal module (there is 11 inside the HU)
-Interpret the correct responses and reboot the head unit

So to get to that point you need either inside information from the manufacturer or some tools and a whooooooooole lot of time. Im not trying to deter you, go for it. Just be aware of what's involved.
