Here's photos of each of the options that can be set on a UK-spec series 1 radio (Vauxhall VXR8);

01 - Holden

02 - Holden Crest

03 - Chevrolet

04 - Holden Special Vehicles

05 - Vauxhall VXR

06 - Blank

It's worth noting that on mine, 05 is the VXR logo (not 06 as the doc says), and 06 is blank, so there's no GXP logo. There's undoubtedly different firmwares for different territories.

Hope this info helps someone :)

Any interest in me uploading either the bitmaps of the (final) images, or animated GIFs?

I'll put them up later tonight when I'm back home. I know jezz & I have already extracted the flash chip (and I reversed the image format ;) )
Would be interesting to see what approach you'll take :)
edit: ok had them with me ..
They're not set to looping so you may want to open them in a new window and/or refresh (CTRL+F5) to see the fade

Finally got around to playing with the video board on the bench - I was able to read the external flash with the Fujitsu FR flash program, and ended up with a very large .mhx S-record file.
I think it read ok - after converting the file from motorola to a binary image I could see the radio menus and help screens in the dump.
Now to see if the new startup screens can be reinjected back in and reflashed back to the video board....
What approach did you and Jezza take ?

Define 'very large'? Should be about a 2mb Binary file.

I know I've read well outside the flash address space - The read was from 0x40000 to 0xFFFFFF
This generated a 47MB S record file, which converted to a 16MB binary.
I think the external address space begins at 0x40000, and the flash chip is 1M x 16bit in size
