the only useful bit of information the eprom holds is the VIN - the rest of the useful information is held in a different chip.. the info in the eprom are things like volume radio presets etc..
need other tools to change to start up logos etc..

I have successfully converted my 2009 VE series 1 system to a Holden IQ series 2 system with full DZ control.
I must thank all the contributors of this site as it was very helpful to me.
For those that are interested attached is the EEPROM dump from my Holden IQ.
It is stored on a 24C64 chip.
The VIN reads something like this 93E5KE1G665106LCL from the EEPROM dump.
Its actually stored backwards in 2 parts without the first number of the VIN! Also the L on the end is not part of the VIN too.
So 93E5KE1G 665106LCL <--- This L is not part of the VIN
So the VIN is actually: 6G1EK5E39CL601566 but was programmed in to the radio as above.
If anyone one has more info about deciphering the Holden IQ EEPROM then please let me know.
Such as VIM, startup logo, reverse input etc.
Maybe the Holden IQ stuff should be on a new thread???
IQ Head Unit IC-Prog.hex
As doubledip mentioned, there is no info for the VIM, RSE, Options, Rev Cam etc stored in the EEPROM. Just radio presets and the VIN that was saved the first time the head unit was powered up in the car. All other into is stored internally in the CPU.

Does this mean Tech 2 is the only way to enable these other options? Camera, RSE etc

Unfortunately yes.
I manually programmed the VIN number on the main unit EEPROM for mine, and got it working that way.
However because mine is from a Maloo Ute, I didnt have the rear speakers / fader enabled. (Nor RSE).
I ended up sending my head unit to double dip to enable the Rear Speakers, and the RSE option (For my IQ system).
While he had it, he upgraded the firmware for me (Which made the IQ unit less temperamental with some stuff).
I hope this helps.

Just installed a reverse camera for my mates VE thunder ute, he grabbed the kit from ASL automedia.. didnt seem to phase him at a price of $500.
Anyways, we hooked up the "programming module" which added the reverse camera option in the config menu. Also didnt realize VE's were held together with clips and literally a couple screws!
But looks like it can be done without the tech2.
Once the module did its 4min job, you simply take it off and plug in the camera wiring. So would this module be of any use to anyone to test on?
Cant be used on another car though since the VIN is stored on it.. thought it may be possible to "fake" the VIN message.

The instructions said to turn radio on then as soon as the holden logo appeared to press the power button again.
After that it said it would turn on/off twice before the programming had finished.

Yeah it would be the reset time unless they are trying a long winded approach. As you know it should take about 1/2 a second to flash and then a reboot
