Hacking VE Colour LCD HVAC and Radio

Specific interior modification information for Holden Commodore VE and VEII Series Commodores, and HSV E1, E2, and E3 models

Postby ZerOne » Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:54 pm

The Replacement clips have arrived....
Which means ????????

Dump of my Original Calais Main Unit EEPROM...

I have not had a chance to compare the EEPROM dumps yet.
However I just uploaded the Hacked HSV main unit EEPROM to my original unit....

This should tell me the following.
1) If the HSV startup screen and text is located on the EEPROM, or in the Software....
2) If I have gotten the Fascia matching locations correct...

Now just waiting for the weekend to swap the main radio units over and test some more !!!!!

Currently working on the VIM, Font Color, Reverse Cam. Got a couple of G8 headunits to play with an a Berlina one

PS You can fire up the radio without the CD stacker plugged in and just the video decoder unit plugged in. Makes testing quicker :p

Hi Crackers01,
From what I can tell, you can fit any one of these up.
There is an extra HVAC module, which I have seen some eBay auctions have included with the main unit and fascia.

The extra HVAC module is for dual zone climate control. (It is an extra blend door motor, used to blend cold and hot air for the passenger vents).

I do not know if the HVAC system will throw any codes or problems if this is not fitted, but from the very little that I know, I have not heard any say this is the case.

There are four models of Colour LCD/HVAC units, which include,
SSV, Non Navigation Models (Black fascia, Red Button illumination, Power button where NAV button normally is)
Calais/HSV, Non Navigation Models (Dark Grey fascia, White Button illumination, Silver bit around the HVAC controls, Power Button where NAV button normally is)..
SSV, Nav Model (Black fascia, Red Button illumination, NAV button fitted to top right of fascia)
Calais/HSV, Nav Model (Dark Grey fascia, White Button illumination, Silver bit around the HVAC controls, NAV button fitted to top right of fascia)..

The image Jezzab uploaded is the SSV Nav Model.
The images I have uploaded are from the Calais/HSV Nav models.
(I will try and get a better picture of these for you)...

As far as I can tell, the differences are purely cosmetic.
The Nav models work without NAV fitted.
I dont know if the Non Nav models will work with NAV, (By pushing the Power button), but I think this is the case....

Jezzab, thanks for the note regarding the Stacker mech....
Will definitely be doing this, as I hardly ever play CDs. I have the EEPROM clip sitting snugly on the main board, so I am going to try and fit
the main unit, and fascia in the vehicle, and have the clip EEPROM connector sitting out somewhere accessible.

Cheers

ZerOne - Is the fonts a different color on the Clubby radio to your Calais one?

Noticed on your pics your Calais one has white text. My SSV has red text.

Is the HSV one red??

Yep,
The font colour on the HSV one is red, the same as (I think) the SSV ones.
The Calais font colour is an aqua (light) blue....

Font sizes and styles look the same....

Funny thing is as soon as I use the NAV functions on the HSV deck, (I.E. when stuff is run on the sat Nav),
The font colour is light blue, just like the old Calais....
So it looks like you can program the font colour too for the Sat Nav (Meh.... Too much trouble Lol !!!!!)

Ill try and take a video of it tonight....

Yeah turned off and time shows red text on my SSV. Aux is white text.

Ok cool coz I've remapped the. MY07 memory to match the MY9.5 and there is a block of bytes of interest and the HSV matches the SSV except for 2 bytes. From memory 1 byte was FF for the Calais unit and the HSV and SSV are 02

I'll wait for the G8 units to rock up and compare. Berlina would be an interesting comparison though
