Diagnostic Trouble Code Description: 

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) signal fault.
DTC P0500 is reported if the VSS signal is not received at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The signal may be missing or intermittent.
NOTE: The VSS signal supplied to the PCM via the instrument cluster module.

Possible Mechanical Faults
Damaged VSS or driven gears

Possible Sensor Faults
Faulty or malfunctioning sensor

Possible Wiring Faults
Improper connection, VSS signal shorted to ground or Vehicle Power (VPWR), VSS open circuit, VPWR open circuit, ground open circuit, improper harness connections, blown instrument cluster module fuse

Possible Module Faults
Damaged instrument cluster module, faulty or damaged PCM Delayed gear engagement or no vehicle movement may indicate a transmission fault. An intermittent ground or open circuit within the instrument cluster module may cause harsh shifts or erratic speedometer operation
