STREAMLINED 2007 VIBE REMAINS THE CHOICE OF CROSSOVER CUSTOMERS

Still growing in popularity and sales after four years on the market, the Pontiac Vibe remains a fun-to-drive crossover vehicle that offers a blend of performance, style and substance. It’s ideally suited to active lifestyles.

The 2007 Pontiac Vibe carries forward the styling updates and other enhancements introduced in the ’06 model year. These brand-specific traits, accentuated by a bold, muscular stance, leave no doubt that the Vibe is a full member of the Pontiac performance team.

The ’07 Vibe has the following new features and changes:

* Wave Blue added to the list of exterior color choices
* Available rear cargo cover
* Premium Monotone Package replaces Premium Monotone Appearance Package and includes painted front and rear fascia extensions, side rocker extensions and two spoilers (roof and mid-gate mounted)

Performance and style

An integrated roof rack adds to the distinctive wedge appearance and enhances Vibe’s form and function. Short body overhangs coupled with standard 16-inch wheels and available 17-inch wheels provide style while optimizing vehicle stability and interior space.

Vibe is equipped with a dual-overhead cam 1.8-liter I-4 engine producing 126 horsepower (94 kW) and 122 lb.-ft. of torque (165 Nm). The engine uses variable valve timing to optimize fuel economy and performance. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a four-speed automatic is available. The all-wheel drive and GT models have been eliminated for ’07.

Suspension and brakes

The front-wheel drive Vibe uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and twist-beam rear suspension for an excellent combination of quiet riding comfort and stable handling.

The Vibe is fitted with vented disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. All-season P205/55R16 tires are available with 16-inch steel or alloy wheels. Seventeen-inch alloy wheels use P215/50R17 tires. A tire pressure monitoring system is also available.

StabiliTrak, GM’s advanced electronic stability control system, is also available and works in conjunction with the vehicle’s traction control system. StabiliTrak assists the vehicle in maintaining the driver’s intended path by applying a brake force at any corner of the vehicle independent of the driver’s use of the brake pedal.

Interior comfort and convenience

Vibe comfortably seats five people. Its contemporary interior provides a combination of comfort and convenience, with standard cloth upholstery or available leather seating surfaces. A folding front passenger seat, along with folding second-row seats, offers a variety of passenger/cargo combinations with room for items up to eight feet long.

The front console features a standard 115-volt AC outlet, allowing laptop computers, cell phone chargers, air compressors and other electrical products to be plugged in without adapters. There is also a 12-volt DC outlet in the instrument panel.

The Vibe offers a host of audio/information systems expected by its active customers, including XM Satellite Radio, a new optional ETR AM/FM stereo with CD player and MP3 playback, and a seven-speaker Monsoon system with integrated subwoofer that is part of the Sun and Sound Package.

With a wide variety of programming, XM has something to excite any driver. Whether you want to be entertained or informed, to laugh, think or sing, XM has the perfect channel for you – coast-to-coast, and in digital-quality sound.

OnStar-equipped Vibe models feature dual-mode (analog-digital) equipment. OnStar’s digital equipment also includes enhanced hands-free voice recognition capabilities including more intuitive continuous digit dialing and improved voice recognition accuracy. Using the GPS satellite network and wireless technology, OnStar features core safety services and OnStar Hands-Free Calling, which allows drivers to make and receive voice-activated phone calls.

Advanced safety features

The Vibe provides outstanding protection for its occupants. It starts with the vehicle’s basic structure, which features a large safety cage and crumple zones. Frame and body panels are constructed on high-strength steel designed to absorb crash energy and resist passenger compartment intrusion.

In addition, all Vibe seating positions have three-point safety belts. Front outboard retractors have built-in load limiters to reduce peak chest loads by allowing a controlled amount of belt give during “ride down” crash conditions. Front inboard safety belt buckles move with the seat during position adjustments.

Dual-stage frontal air bags provide supplemental protection for front-seat passengers. The air bag system’s control unit determines whether the severity of a crash warrants air bag deployment and if just the primary stage or the primary and secondary stages are necessary. This smart system helps reduce the risk of air bag-induced injuries. Front safety belt pretensioners deploy at the same time as the frontal air bags to take up slack in the safety belts and minimize occupant movement during a crash.

The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system provides additional anchors for child safety seats. Two lower anchors and a top tether anchor secure the child seat to the vehicle seat structure for proper installation of compatible child safety seats.

Available head curtain side air bags provide additional protection. They unfold from the roof rail between the A-pillar and side window header. The side air bags deploy in an angle toward the window to help provide protection for front and rear outboard passengers.

Other safety features and options include child safety door locks, programmable door locks, a power window lockout switch, anti-theft system, remote keyless entry, delay-entry lighting, and daytime running lamps.
